Our Music

Music is a language that is living, breathing, changing.  Because music is not static, older music can become dated and dull-sounding to modern ears.  Each culture molds and shapes the sensibilities and influences the criteria for what makes music good and pleasing.  Music complements theology; music adorns the preaching of the Word in a worship service; music ministers to the heart.

Rocky Mountain Community Church is blessed to have Trudy Poirier as music director.  Her involvement in church music began as a child in her father's Assemblies of God congregation.  From youth on, she has been leading worship at the piano and writing music.  Only in the past ten years, however, has she begun to seriously apply herself to developing doctrinally sound, singable music for congregations.  She has done so in response to two observations:  First, the theology promoted by many contemporary choruses often falls short of a careful, biblical standard.  Second, the music of theologically rich hymns is sometimes uninspiring or hard for congregations to sing.  As a result of her work, she began Pear Tree Music.

Pear Tree Music endeavors to breathe new life into hymnody—those voices from the past who speak powerful lyrics explaining the gospel in a priceless and timeless way—by clarifying the meaning of archaic words, phrases, and complicated language and providing a melodic framework for the lyrics to shine in singable, culturally fit music of our day.

Through biblically faithful texts set to original melodies and arrangements, it is Trudy’s earnest desire that Pear Tree Music would assist the Body of Christ in worship with the hope that the church might be "built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ" (Ephesians 4:12-13).

For millennia, Christians have realized the immense value of singing.  With that same view, Rocky Mountain Community Church seeks to help believers worship with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength most reverently, passionately, and vigorously on the piano, strings, guitars, flute, and percussion.
