What We Prioritize as We Pursue Our Vision
1. God’s Word
Definition:
We submit to Scripture—the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments—as our ultimate authority, believing it is God’s inerrant, unchanging, and sufficient revelation for all of life and faith.
Description:
Because Scripture is God’s living and active Word and the only objective source of truth, we saturate our lives in it—reading, studying, memorizing, and meditating on it daily. We gather around the Bible, not human wisdom, allowing it to correct us, shape our thinking, and guide our decisions. We faithfully preach, teach, and apply God’s Word in clear and compelling ways for each generation in an ever-changing world. As a people under the Word, we lovingly hold one another accountable to it, speaking the truth in love—even when it is costly (2 Tim. 3:16; 1 Pet.3:15b).
2. The Gospel
Definition:
We treasure the good news of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ as our greatest joy—that sinners are justified by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.
Description:
Because we are saved entirely by God’s grace in Christ, the gospel shapes every aspect of our lives. It is not merely our entry point into the Christian life, but the fuel for all of it—our worship, obedience, relationships, service, and witness. We believe, preach, proclaim, and apply the gospel to our hearts, our church, and our community. We cultivate a culture where confession is met with compassion, failure with hope, and honesty about sin flows from confidence in our Savior (Rom. 1:16).
3. Authentic Community
Definition:
We pursue deep, truth-filled relationships in which we are known, loved, and challenged to grow in Christlikeness.
Description:
Because we were created for relationship and redeemed into God’s family, we reject superficiality and commit to being present in one another’s lives. Authentic community means showing up—in worship, small groups, homes, and moments of need. We share our lives, ask
hard questions, confess sin, extend forgiveness, pray for one another, and speak the truth in love, even when it is uncomfortable. Together, we practice hospitality, bear burdens, celebrate joys, and mourn losses, intentionally living out the “one another’s” of Scripture. We belong to one another (Acts 2:42–47; 2 Cor. 3:18).
4. Missional
Definition:
We live as sent people, making disciples and bearing witness to Christ’s lordship in every sphere of life.
Description:
We exist not for ourselves, but to make disciples, bless our communities, and proclaim the gospel locally and to the ends of the earth. We view our everyday lives—our neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and relationships—as mission fields. Mission is not a program we attend
but a posture we embody. We intentionally cultivate relationships with non-believers, practice hospitality, and look for opportunities to share the hope of the gospel with clarity and compassion. We make disciples who go—corporately and individually—through local outreach
and evangelism, and through local, regional, and global church planting (Gen. 12:1–3; Jer. 29:7; Matt. 28:18–20).
5. Servant-Hearted
Definition:
We follow Jesus by humbly putting others before ourselves, using our gifts and resources for God’s glory and the good of others.
Description:
Just as Christ came not to be served but to serve, we gladly lay down our preferences, rights, and comfort for the sake of others. We believe God has gifted every believer with abilities meant to build up the church, love neighbors, and advance His kingdom. Individually and corporately, we
engage in the work God has given us, seeking His mercy, blessing, and vision for Rocky as we serve in grateful obedience (Matt. 20:28; Eph. 2:8–10; Phil. 2:1–11).
OUR MISSION:
What We Do to Prioritize Those Values and Pursue Our Vision
1. EXALT the Lord
In light of the gospel, Rocky is first and foremost a worshiping community. Our gathered worship reflects the deep truths of God’s revealed Word and centers on the glory of the Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In worship, we are reminded that we were created to know and love God, invited into the rest of being beloved sons and daughters of the King, and renewed in our calling to love our neighbors and serve Jesus in every area of life. All we do flows from a desire to exalt Christ and live for His glory (Col. 1:28; 3:17; 1 Cor. 10:31).
2. EQUIP One Another
God calls us not only to follow Jesus, but to be His disciples and to make disciples. We believe God has gifted every believer with abilities meant to be used for the building up of His church and the advance of His kingdom. As those gifts are exercised, we experience joy as God’s grace
and mercy are extended through His people. We equip and disciple the saints through teaching, training, and shared life, so that together we pursue our mission, embody our values, and faithfully serve where God has placed us (Matt. 28:18–20; Eph. 4:11–13).
3. EXTEND the Kingdom
As Christ’s church, we are called to lead others into a living relationship with Jesus Christ and His body. God’s unchanging message is living, active, and deeply relevant to every generation. We faithfully proclaim this historic gospel in language, forms, and expressions that are clear and compelling within our cultural context. As Christ’s ambassadors, we speak the truth with humility and confidence, trusting God to use His Word to bring life and renewal (2 Cor. 5:20; 1 Pet. 3:15; Acts 2:6).
4. EMBRACE the Life of Grace
Grace changes everything. The covenant of grace—instituted and progressively revealed throughout Scripture—is the foundation of our hope and life together as God’s people. In light of God’s grace in Christ, we seek to live by grace and extend grace in every aspect of church life.
We continually remember both the seriousness of our sin before a holy God and the surpassing wonder of Christ’s love and sacrifice for us. Shaped by grace, we pursue repentance, faith, humility, and joyful obedience (Eph. 2:8–10; John 3:3; 2 Tim. 1:9).
